AuditionThe Naples Carolers has been training and booking costumed, acapella (SATB) Christmas Caroling quartets since 2005. We are the premiere caroling organization in Southwest Florida. Auditions are held June through early August every year. September through November, we rehearse every Sunday afternoon or evening, with additional rehearsals held also within each quartet as they see fit. The perfomance season runs Thanksgiving through Christmas and your personal performance hours are based largely upon your availability and performance preparation. Singers make between $25-40/hour based on seniority and leadership. Rehearsals are not paid. All Carolers must be at least 17 years of age and have transportation. The music is often challenging, so good musicianship/reading skills are a plus, and memorization is required of your part (not necessarily all the lyrics). Please be aware that all selected Carolers are required to learn their music on their own, as our rehearsals cover the many aspects of our performances and serve as a means of polishing our unique quartet sound. We do provide rehearsal CD's and help to those who need it, so fear not! What to expect at your auditionThe audition will last about 10 minutes and has three parts:1. MonologueWe want to know how you might speak to an audience as a Caroler. Please prepare a holiday monologue, approximately 30-60 seconds in length. You could share your thoughts or memories of a favorite holiday experience. You could give an introduction to the song you're going to sing, explaining what it means to you, or perhaps recite a holiday poem or give a reading of a lyric and why it is special to you. We want you to be yourself, this is not a traditional actors monologue "in character".2 Singing SoloNext, youll sing a verse of a Christmas song of your choosing, a cappella, unaccompanied, any style. Choose a song you're comfortable with rather than a song that you think will impress us. Be aware that we may ask you to sing a few bars of another familiar carol if we want to hear another side of your voice. 3. Musicianship Finally, we will have you sight-read a song or two as a duet or with your auditioner. Although there is no expected or required level of musicianship needed to qualify, we need to get a rough idea of how well and how quickly you will be able to learn music. You will be notified via e-mail or regular mail of your audition results. If asked to join us for callbacks you will receive music that you are expected to learn and perform within a quartet of veteran carolers. Your preparedness and ability to blend will help us make our final decision. Please:Call (239) 354-1817 to schedule your audition time. Be sure to leave us a message so we can get back to you. Give your name, voice part, and phone number. Arrive 15 minutes prior to your audition appointment to fill out paperwork.Bring your calendar. Part of the paperwork is a schedule of your availability for the season.Part of the paperwork is a schedule of your availability for the season.Callback date: Sunday August 22, 2010 - location TBDBring a resume and headshot if you have them.
